A year ago a women named Nicole Eczema had no place to live. She was just going around on the streets begging for money. After Nicole spent a few weeks in a shelter she was able to afford an apartment in another shelter called Saint Vincent De Paul. Her only job was being a sales clerk so she had no experience with other jobs. She is now training to be a Substance Abuse Councilor. Nicole has a two year limit in this apartment, and she has already used up one, and after that one year is over she is on her own. Nicole has a four year old son that she has to take care of. She has no idea where she is going to go after her time runs out at Saint Vincent De Paul.
On average, 2,200 people come to Saint Vincent De Paul for help.
So many people say: “I would have never thought I would be one of those people”.
There are so many people that had never expected to end up like this.
My class and I have all been to Saint Vincent De Paul and volunteered to serve food to the homeless. When we went there we were shocked because there were so many people. We had to re-fill the food at least three to four times.
Most of the homeless people are families, which means they have to take care of children. Some people live in cars if they have absolutely no other choice.
Field Elementary School located in Claremont had a day where the kids could get out early. All of the kids stayed to eat there lunch. This school gives a really good meal, there is mashed potatoes, chicken nuggets, and much more. When the parents pick the children up they come a little late o the children have time to eat.
I feel so bad for all of these children that parents can’t afford meals for them, or shelter.
